Default weather ?

so was out today after returning from working in belgium. woke up early at it seemed fairly clammy so decided to hell with it and went out

anyway there was fish swimming around some jumping a foot out of the water for midges and the rest just breaking the surface with the tip of their fins.

anyway it got to the point 4 hours in and nothing was taking even the slightest intrest in what i was casting out at them, neither did i see any one else get a knock or land anything.

it look at one point that there was going to be thunder and lighting the air was that sort of moist

so really what is the ideal weather for fishing, is it best to avoid during moist clammy weather or sudden change in weather ?

or is it just me

I find hot, humid, overcast is usually the ideal weather for fly fishing. It was that kind of weather where I was fishing today and I did well.

The only days not good for fishing is when the water is about 6 inches in ice.If you are fishing you always have a chance of catching a fish and its working out how to catch it.
baromic presssure does effect fish and they will sense it long before we do and will turn them off ,saying that they can still be caught.

There is nothing set in stone in fly fishing and over the last few weeks 2 examples of this I can give.

1,Red hot bright sunshine after a cooler period.Fish should be down deep and sinking and inter med lines to get down to them. But it was the opposite.Fish were taking off the top on floating lines. This wasnt just on the one day but constant over the hot period.

2 Again Our second hot spell this week, strong winds so you would expect fish to where the wind was blowing the food source, deep down ,so in or sinking lines.Again fish were at the opposite end ,nowhere near the blown food source and were still closish to the top and it was intermed and floating lines with buzzers and lures which took fish. reason fish had gone to the deeper, cooler water and as daphnia were in the water orange was a good choice for flies.

best to enjoy time fishing when you can get it,life is too short.

Warm, overcast, rising air pressure and a SW ripple - perfect.

A water temprature of 23deg is getting close to being lethal to trout.I hope they have a bit of deep water that is cooler,
