Default Wye - St Briavels fishing venues

Off to St Briavels YHA with family today.
MIGHT be able to negotiate an hour or two with the brother-in-law and wondered where is nearby St Briavels that I should try.

A whole day ticket would be out of the question. Possible picnic at bankside is another scenario whilst I blank and catch trees.

I have looked at Big Well, Woolaston and Bean Hill. Confused how the Wye permits might work for a "quickie" fish......probably not packing waders but not too late to change that.

Salmon/Sea Trout/Trout options.

Any ideas?

Take some wet weather gear as it has just started tipping it down here in Gloucestershire and I mean tipping it down.

By the sound of it, your best option would be a ticket at Woolaston. It's a lovely fishery. Perhaps an evening ticket as it's too hot and bright here at the moment for any useful day fishing. If you haven't got waders, forget the river Wye. Most fishing is usually private on the Wye, though there is plenty of fishing on the Wye through the H&DAA. Salmon, forget it, seatrout, forget it. There's a tackle shop in Ross on Wye that should be able to furnish you with more detail regarding permits etc.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys - I'll pack the waterproofs and Woolaston is near enough if I can get a pass from the respective Domestic Authorities!

Dave.
