Default River Fishing in the South

Hi All

Last year I moved to Leigh-on-Sea in Essex from Notts and though some of the lakes and resssies are very good round here you can't beat a bit of river fishing and I was wondering if there is anywhere within a 2 hour drive that I can day ticket?

Default wiltshire avon

the wiltshire avon near salisbury maybe pushing the 2 hour mark but it is cheap as chips and some cracking fish, brown trout and grayling. also try the priory at basingstoke? i think. not fished it but heard for the money it is good value. OR barton court on the kennet. day ticket and quality. ORRR get yourself over to wales (more than 2 hours) for the weekend wye and usk foundation the best value fishing in the UK. quality fish quality surroundings and CHEAP.

Hi Wye Wizard,
That sounds interesting, where abouts are you getting "cheap as chips" fishing on the Wiltshire Avon near Salisbury, do you have a website link or any further details?
Thanks in advance.

Many Thanks for Wye. Could you also PM me the details please chap.

I appreciate there in not many rivers that would support trout within quite a distance of my area but is there anything in Hertfordshire, Suffolk, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Kent, South downs or Norfolk areas at all?

If nothing really is there any fly fishing on the estuarys such as the blackwater?

Yeah done H'Field and Chiggers virtually every week. Father is part of Derbyshire Angling Club so got to fish the Derwent and Dove when I lived back up in Nottingham but it is quite a distance now for a days fishing.

You have a number of options nearer to where you are than the suggestions so far.

This site suggests places in Norfolk
http://www.fishandfly.co.uk/norfolk.html

I believe that there is some trout fishing on the upper Cam, but don't have any details. There's also whispers about the Chelmer

Moving west, in Herts there a number of small chalkstreams, however most have very restricted access on a day ticket. I fish a stretch of the Chess on the Bucks / Herts border but theres no day ticket I'm afraid.

The only bit I know in this area is a small stretch of the Ver that's available here. http://redbournburyfishery.co.uk/default.aspx

The upper Ouse in West Suffolk has trout and sea trout but don't know about access, there's also fishing on the River Arun I think. Google these and day ticket and you should find something.

Alternatively yes you can fish the Blackwater estuary for bass. I sometimes fish the Crouch, if you're intersted PM and I could point you in the right direction possibly.

Good luck

John

Many thanks Hengemaster. Will take a luck. I would like the Bass detail as I have a saltwater fly set up.
