Hi', Andy. We could do with a few more like you up our way. As far as club work was concerned, when I served on our club committee, until a mate was appointed as club bailiff, receiving only expenses, I could have been called 'The Lone Ranger.' One or the other of my two sons came along occasionally, and they were a great help. Not many members of any club anywhere, I would guess, are prepared to sacrifice fishing or boozing time in order to get their hands dirty or nettled. There will be exceptions, as some people do appreciate that stiles, notice boards and fences do not erect or repair themselves.
I salute you, sir. No kidding. TerryC
PS It wasn't all for nothing in my case, as I was rewarded with an honorary life membership on my early retirement from full-time work in 1990; but the graft was never done with such a goal in mind. To be honest, I would rather have seen more members roll their sleeves up and pitch in, and not have had the honour bestowed on me.
PPS I'm out on a balsam pulling party at 5.30 pm, with Steven trout, near his home. Not a club do, but one organised by Eden RiversTrust. Now they are grafters. The best thing that has happened to angling in our area was the setting up of our ERT.
