Default Taking a young one fishing

Dear All,

At what age can you take a young one fishing ?

My new (first born) daughter is now 8 days old.....do you think I have missed the boat with her ?

(Sorry for the gratuitous proud father post)

But she WILL be coming fishing with me at some point in her life !!

Drfrank

perfect age to give her an insight and get her involved in fishing.Point of thought though dont let her get too bored and put her off.As the coarse anglers say little and often is best to start.Make it interesting and catching a fish is the best way for a youngster to really enjoy it.
best of luck and great to see.

congratulations on your daughter, i to have a little girl now (10) and she first tried fishing at 4 the same age i started as moray says make it interesting but more so FUN ,if you can see she is becoming bored call it a day if you push them past that fun they will resent it ,mine has grown on to becoming a great friend whilst fishing aswell as a daughter one that has no problems getting up at 2 am and travelling to ironbridge in the car for a spot of barbel fishing and thats 3 1/2 hrs in car from york ,and she loves her fly fishing very much and tying her own flies ,so yes encourage but dont over do it and as i say make it fun , good luck i wish you well with it its a great experience , my regards to you your partner and your daughter .

Default if they can walk and hold a rod

my boys is nearly 4 and he's fishing mad already. i take him course fishing mainly in the canals where there are plenty of roach, rudd, skimmers and perch and he's caught too. i've taken him fly fishing with me a couple of times and let him mess around with his own rod. i'll have to post the pictures later of him playing a grayling on the fly and then posing with his quarry. we told everyone that he caught it of cause

he wants all his own gear and kit as well now. we went to garry evans and got him is own fly box and landing net. no kiddies waist coats in that size unfortunately, but we're still on the look out.

sorry to rant on but i agree with everyone else. short, fun sessions with plenty of fish

Hi' Doc, and congratulations. I miss never having had a little girl; but I have two big lads -- 42 and 45 respectively. They were natural anglers, and didn't have to be shown much; but the lads are right about keeping the interest going. The old adage, 'Nothing succeeds like success, could have been penned for angling. I envy you the many happy years ahead; in the nicest possible way. My two haven't fished for years, but they know where their gear is, if they feel like getting involved again. TC
