Default Lightening strike!

Hi All,
Take a look at this story from over the pond http://www.kmbc.com/news/19730665/detail.html
If ever there was a story to reinforce the message of don't fish in a thunderstorm this is it!
I can't believe they actually got away with their lives, and that he is actually holding a fishing rod.
Take care out there!
Cheers
Richard

Many years ago I was at Draycote ( late 70's or early 80's) on a day when two anglers in a boat were similarly struck.

If my memory serves me correctly a hole was punched in the side of the boat, one angler was killed and his boat partner was rescued floating face down in the margins.

It's not a good idea to be waving a very efficient conductor around when you're the tallest object in a wide open space!

He says God saved them by guiding them to make the right steps after the lightening strike. That God fellow really is a genious!! Would he surley not also believe that it was god sent the bolt of lightening and he also guided him out onto the lake with a lightening conductor in the middle of an electric storm.

God help us all..............actually...........i'll be fine thanks!!!

Hi', Richard. A couple of local lads I once knew were caught in a thunderstorm on the Eden near Lazonby. They took shelter under a large oak -- bad move. The lightning struck the tree, sheared off a branch, it fell on them, breaking one lad's arm and both fly rods, belonging to father and son. It also burned out the barbed wire attached to the tree trunk. Now how lucky were they? The rods were both Sharpe's Scotties. I remember, because I have one.
They would have had a soaking if they had lain down in a hollow in the field, but they would have been a lot safer. TC
PS Lightning can lift your hair. I had it happen to me while looking for my elder son, forty years ago, who was out playing with a pal when a storm rolled in. A lightning strike hit the Grammar School playing field where I was searching, and the static stood my hair on end.
The next strike hit a house about 80 yards away and there was smoke in the air. Can't remember what damage was done; and the lad, he was in his mate's house, dry as abone!! TC

The eve of the 16th, and I was out just across the golf course fishing the Ouse on the 15 waiting for the new season.

In the distance I saw loads of lightning, presumably from the storm that had passed some hours earlier???

Sadly it got closer, I legged it back accross the golf course, daring not to look back, must say there is an eery fright that engroses you when........

A. You have a carbon rod in hand.
B. You cast in two hours before the season
C. You are legging it back, over a ruddy golf course

Not big and not clever but I'm convinced it was 'the Big Mans' way of retribution, for me being confused with the midnight hour!

GOD BLESS AMERICA lmbo
