Default Lines at School?

In Today's Scottish Sun Newspaper........

"Angling for marks"

A Scots school is set to become the first in the UK to offer pupils the chance to study fishing.
Blairgowrie High, in Perthshire, will include Game Angling in its curriculum next year.
And the course could then be rolled out to all schools in Scotland the following year.
David Bellamy, patron of Angling for Youth Development who set up the course, said: "This is a unique opportunity for young people to develop their skills and appreciation of the environment."

I think this is fab news as not everyone enjoys football or rugby, or netball or gymnastics!

Debs..

Debs, we have Angling in the Classroon. Not sure of the full content, but the kids have a tank in the class with trout eggs that hatch out and the kids then release the fry into the local river. Think Willie Yeomans is involved with this.

Not sure how wide spread this is. I think some Lanarkshire (Clyde) schools are involved. No formal part to it so hopefuly the one your talking about leads to greater things.

Read the same article in the Daily Ranger , I feel it's a bit more upmarket than The Sun Deb's.

Great idea on a vocational level, but is it another example of schools and colleges giving kid's false hopes of jobs in what's a popular pass time / industry at the moment where the stark reality is that there are very few and much sought after good jobs available ?

Tourism and leisure, Animal management, Beauty therapy, Greenkeeping and quite a few other vocational occupations spring to mind.

I believe some anti-angling organisations have complained about this.
