Default is super glue soluable in water?

hi all,

Just checking is super glue soluable in water? The general opinion is that yes it is. However i have been using shooting heads using loc t glue on them, with a braided sleeve and never had one come off.

As its been a few years just wanted to check if anyone else has had the same good experiance or if you have lost shooting heads / fish if your braided sleeve come off as a result of the glue "disolving" might be hard to proove if its just a once off. I was thinking about redoing all my lines both back and front and could take a few hours which i would rather spend fishing.

Anyway post up advice or experiance

I've put a drop of superglue on all my lines where the braided loops join and see no difference visually . Do you use a sleeve over the join as well ,like on Braided Loops . They are not meant to come adrift if put on properly !!!

Superglue is not water soluble, but over time it does change causing it to go white and flaky and loose its adhesion. There are however superglues with a rubber agent mix, these repel water and last far longer. (I knew all those years of making carp rigs would come in useful )

If you use low viscosity superglue (not gel type), then it will wick up inside the sleeve, so water will not really be able to get to it because it will seal the gap itself.

In any event, as Molley says, the sleeve should hold on by itself anyway.

I've been using superglue and sleeves like this for 15 to 20 years and never had aproblem.

Default tx guys

hi guys tx for replys. Now got some confidence back.

I use a braided sleeve with a silicon / rubber sleeve to go over the top. Just before i push the sleeve over i put a drop or two onto the braid/flyline and slide it over. A minute later you are good to go.

On a side note over time it does go white and powdery I guess some must still be solid inside the sleeve?

I must admitt I have seen the zap a gab stuff for sale but never bothered as i tie so many super glue buzzer hence have more super glue lying around.

I have seen lots of people loose their sleeves with tubing without the super glue though!!

If Superglue isn't soluble in water:

Why do they market some superglues, with a rubber agent, that are specifically designed to use in water and why do they use soapy water to free off stuck body-parts?

And why would it turn white, as if emulsifying, when used in water?
