Default The English Fly Fishing Shop

Has anyone any experience with "The English Fly Fishing Shop"? (www.flyfishing-flies.com)
Saw their website and they seem quite cheap and offer free postage.
New to this lark so no idea what I'm buying really! Would you order from them?

I've bought some gold ribbed hares ears from "The English Fly Fishing Shop" without any problems - flies seemed OK (I'm also fairly new to this) and they have caught me a few fish. Also bought from essentialfly and have had some soft hooks but they are cheap and have a good range. I think Fulling mill are the best commercial ones to buy with solid hooks and good tyings http://www.selectafly.com/ do mailorder if you cant get to a shop with stock - they also do their own much cheaper flies which ive not tried so be careful to select the appropriate bit of the website.

One good thing about The English Fly Fishing Shop website is that you get some insight into the fly and how to fish it - essential reference for the newbie I found

Have fun

RogB

the only problem i sometimes get is the varnish most of the time cover the eye on the fly so usually have to poke a dubbing needle to clear

Thanks for the welcome.
It's an old nickname given me by my mate, funnily enough also from York.

You're right RogB, useful bit of info given on how and when to fish different patterns. The free postage bit was the main attraction...

for me it has to be:

http://www.fastmailtackle.co.uk/

BUT it's always best to telephone your order as sometimes they are out of stock of some items and then send a substitute.

P+P is next to nothing + if you spend more than a tenner on flies you can get 50% off certain fly boxes.

Or Dollars even .It is odd but they have their reasons..

"We sell our flies in US Dollars because 90% of our customers are from North America and fishermen from other parts of the world normally know what their currency is worth against the US Dollar. "

no need to avoid them just because of that tho' I'm not sure if a surcharge is added to payment by credit or debit card as it might be considered an overseas transaction!!!

it's not difficult to work out what it is in Sterling or use a conversion tool.
