Default Definitive fact or dubious doctrine.

All the best thread titles alliterate

To start with I've a question about the percived wisdom of matching fly size to the size of the wave when fishing on the drift. This seems a "too obvious" suggestion and so I'm suspicious of the principle. I suspect that patterns will be equally visible silhoutted <sp?> against the sky regardless of wave size, and large patterns may be too big to be imitative? What are your thoughts people.

More generally are there any other classic techniques and mainstream advice that you think need myth-busting?
