hi matt. that stream is called the taff feeder and is free to fish as no one owns it. the fishing there is not as good as it use to be a couple of years ago and for most parts is very difficult on the fly. the reason for this is that at it's widest it's about 8ft wide and is surrounded by shrubs and the banks are quite high s is difficult to wade in. the feeder also varies in depth in different places.
the feeder goes underground through town and then emerges in atlantic wharf. all the species in this part is made up of course fish. i've got a picture of my biggest roach i've ever caught from there. a whopping 2 pounder. more than a foot in length.
i have caught many different species in the feeder including a monster of a perch whilst worming which was about 2 1/2 pounds. another personal best. this was at the source where it comes from the taff though. by here you can also catch chubblets, dace, roach, small brownies and grayling (large shoals of bream by atlantic wharf). i've heard (but never seen) that there are barbel in there as well. like i said i've never seen one or caught one there but it's very possible i suppose.
i'm waiting for the 16th so i can get out my worming gear again. it's great fun.
you're best chance on the fly is nymphing at the top of the feeder where you'll get small brownies and grayling. you'll know where you are as you'll see lots of discarded tackle which i end up taking home and binning. i've reported this nuisance to the park rangers but they said that there's not much they could do really. discarded tackle is one of my pet hates.
if you fancy a session down there then feel free to pm me and i'll be more than happy to show you the best swims etc
cheers
