Default River Lyn advice

Hoping to do a bit of fishing on the East Lyn in North Devon this weekend for some of those lovely little wild brownies, and to save having to bring along to much gear, can anyone who has fished it recommend the best rod and line set up, any replies would be most grateful.

Cheers
Steve

the river I love!

a 7ft 6" 3wt loaded with a 4wt line is ideal, Tapered leaders 9ft to 2lb, Cast short, fish the pockets, for dry fly if nothings hatching try a size 14 or 16 black pattern or Klink and dink

My favourite sections are lower stag to long pool and from the boulder fields just below rockford to the top

loads of fish, 11"er is a whopper.

Tuck in.

L.D.O is spot on there. It's a lovely river and, talking of tucking in, you have the National Trust tea and cake to sustain you at Watersmeet as you make your way up the fishery. I can't think of a nicer garden to take a brew in.

Here are a few taster pics (apologies to all who saw these last year)

Thanks for the replies, and the pics, is that bridge the start of the fishery and how far upstream can you fish.

The fishing starts about half a mile above the bridge in JJO's last picture and goes up about three miles. A good map is provided with the ticket.

The sections mentioned by LDO are both upstream of Watersmeet and are the ones I would head for as well.

I think 7'6" rod is a tad short and always go for a 9 footer. I find the extra length helpful for holding the line off the water when fishing small pockets at close range, but it is hardly a matter of life or death

You must have some cherry pie from Watersmeet

When walking back from a successful salmon fishing morning on the upper river I stopped for a slice of that gorgeous cherry pie, dumping rod, net and fish on the path outside. Went in to queue and shortly after heard a scream, rushed out to see man who had tried to pick up the fish, clutching his hand and my normally benign and hyper freindly terrier standing between him and the fish snarling....

Well that should teach that fella to go and catch his own fish and not try to have someone elses fish away
