Default John Baileys New Programme

I dont know if this has been discussed here before???? If you've been watching his new series 'on the fly', I wonder if like me you find it unmissable telly?

What a great programme, and it really sums up the fishing bug in me......Thankfully unlike Mr Wilsons latest Lechlade show, where its a fish a chuck from the owners garden, isnt it great to watch a real angler, fishing not just catching on every episode.

The Norfolk episode that started the series was fantastic I thought, loads of local haunts near to where we live at weekends................

If he ever looks in here, 'Thanks Mr Bailey', its good T.V.

It's not too bad but at least half of the episodes don't include any fly fishing and John Bailey has his annoying habits a bit like Wilson. The number of times he says "exactly" is starting to annoy me.

You actually missed the first programme as the Norfolk programme was No.2. The first was fishing on the Wye for shad (illegal), filming spawning barbel (probably illegal) and catching a lovely wild brownie of between 2lb and 3lbs.

This series was run on both Horse & Country (Sky 280) and Rural TV (Sky 279) before it got to Sky 242. The best of what is left is probably the programme on the Gliffaes water of the Upper Usk and the one on the chalk streams with the guy from Fishing Breaks.

I believe there are 2 series of On The Fly in circulation on Discovery Shed and Horse & Country, and I preferred the second series made in the wet summer of 2007 to the first. The shows just seemed to have a wee bit more solid content.

Agree with Sewinbasher about "Put to the Test" from the first series, in particular what a lovely little chalk stream the Dun is. I am luck enough to fish the stretch at Holbury day ticket fishery a few times each season.

Something about John Bailey I don't like, not sure what it is though.

Was quite disappointed to turn on and not see any fly fishing at all, just some pretty daft and quite dangerous antics while after wild carp.

Do you mean the bit when the guy goes wading stroke swimming in that lake to be honest that was very daft but the show when he did do some fly fishing was enjoyable gourgeous place and the guide he was with seemed really good

For me John Bailey is lucky Trout 'n' About was made because if it wasnt for that his programme would be the worst fishing programme on the tele. The title is a complete misnomer because there is hardly any fly fishing in it but more than that he comes over to me as anything but an expert. Not quite bumbling but not far off. For me, Hywell Morgan is the kiddie, funny and a bit OTT but he can certainly fish.

As for them two in Scotland, I would be amazed if they ever had the front to turn up at a water ever again. Set fly fishing back years

if pauls out fishing on the river salmon or sumthing he has about 10 ro out and just runs up to it when a guy gets a fish on, thats why u hardly ever see him get into a fish

O.k shoot me down then!

I think J.B. does a great show, Its nice to watch a true gent fish thats all I thought.

I am lucky in that quite often my other half sits and watches too, she like me enjoys the laid back ambience of the man.

Mr Morgan, I agree, a great angler and having just watched one of his DVD's, I would seriously love to have a day on a river with him.

That said I recon a day on the river with Mr Bailey, would be a session to remember as well.

we're all different and I guess thats why all these programmes get made.

Paul Young always looks like he needs a drink!
Regards
Jas.
