Default 1st time fishing today in a few years

i went fly fishing today for the 1st time in near 3 or 4 years , but when i did used to go i was just learning my carst , but with the way things in life go i didnt have any time to do any fishing up till now ,

my day i felt went good apart from the heat i went to a place called tree medow in cornwall near camborne , any way i got my rod set up and then it come to choosing witch flies to use , i dont have a clue what flie is witch and what should be used for this time of year apart from the names of about 3 or 4 lol so i know i did put a buzzer on and some other flie

with in 3 carsts i had a trout bag into my line i could see the silver flashing in the water as the little ****** wanted to get of the hook and with in 10 to 15 seconds it was gone , i was so gutted but deep down i was really buzzing as thought welcome back to fishing whoop

i was having fish go for my line pretty much on every cast but never taking it good and propper , then i did for a good 45 seconds , i was loving it the fish was jumpin and then so was i as it got off any way about 10 mins after that i ended up landing a 3lb trout ( know it was that as i weighed it when i got home ) but for the rest of the day i just keeped gettin bites , pulling at my line , is this normal for the fish to be laughting under the water lookin up at u while pulling on ya line ? lol or am i doin some think wrong as im pretty new to this kind of fishing

cheers bloodworm

Welcome mate.

I am pretty new to the sport but your post is a near perfect description of my first 3 outings. Never actually landed a single fish despite a good few takes.

The last 3 times I have hardly had a fish come off. I think the main diferrence has been a more positive and well time striked (positive as in firm nor rip it's head off!), being much more careful to stay in contact with the fish during the fight and not allow any slack line, even if this has meant walking backways quickly and holding the rod as high up as possible etc.

Anyway, the lost fish make you appreciate the ones you bank so much more
