Default Women's fishing clothing. Is it appropriate?

Right ok.

I know there are options on the fishing market that offer women's clothes that have a more womanly look and fit women better. The selection is often limited though, and it often costs an arm and a leg. The everyday fishing clothing market is awash with badly shaped stuff and big baggy things too.

I know there are one or two women who don't really think about fashion presentation on the bank, to a degree that is, but well, It would be nice to have the choice.

I think it's better to leave the fishing world behind when looking for appropriate clothing for women, that's my own opinion by the way and browse the markets and shops. I know when you are shopping, yer get a load of moaning from yer man, but it needs to be done. Or leave him at home.

So what is needed for a day's fishing ? One a very light waterproof outfit. boots, a jacket with plenty of pockets in. A nice hat, some nice poloroid sunglasses, some attractive mittens, some nice tops, jeans and trousers. (you can wear what yer like underneath it all)

Things that don't break the bank either.

If anyone has seen anything, anywhere, and it's not expensive, more the local market, Primark and Matalan than expensive outlets, please say where.

Why bother you may say ? Well, we often call at a pub on the way home and it often means changing in the car.

I aint no fashion junky, ( well limited resouces lol ) although like many women, I have tops etc in my wardrobes that have never been worn, still with the labels on. I would just like to have the choice and may be if there was a wide choice of fishing clothing, that pertains to the fashionable, it may attract more women to the sport. Juist a thought.

Oh and well erm, when yer right across the reservoir or river, miles from a fishing lodge toilet, with other fishermen and people on the bank, sparodically here and there, where the hell do we pee pee ? More strategically placed toilets please !!!!!

Any respectful and useful comments are most welcome.

Andrea

Try the www.fishingforeveryone.com site ran by Lucy Bowden. It is a site mainly for women anglers and I am sure you will get some good information from there.

Hope this helps.

The minimalist approach is most appreciated.

Andrea,
apart from waders(which orvis do in womans fit) i dont wear fishing clothes, find it scrunchy and baggy, any good outdoor store will give you a better selection of technical outdoor gear, cant beat primaloft for keeping you cosy.

I agree with this in general, not just for women. While buying bits and pieces for a fishing trip that was going to involve some camping, I spotted these and thought they looked as if they would dry quickly. I was actually really impressed with their water resistance, I ended up fishing in heavy horizontal rain, and the water just ran off them. Yet to see how they stand up to repeated washing, but so far so good.

I've met some astonishingly good kit in Aldi - their ski jackets for instance, stand honest comparison with anything else out there.

Good clothing is what it is regardless of which shop it comes from - so if you like M&S underwear, there's no need to go looking for Orvis or Sims just because you're going fishing.

Totally agree. I am getting itchy palms ready for a shop to drop session.

Thanks for the link. Actually this is the best range of clothing I have come across yet. Everything I need at Millets and the Peter Storm range is wonderful. Well getting excited for that shopping trip.

Hi Andrea,

There doesn't seem to be a great deal of choice for specific angling equipment for the female angler. I would agree with you; and think it's about time the manufacturers of fishing equipment (specifically the clothing range) produced something a little more stylish for the Lady-Angler!
