Default rod length help

Whilst fishing today I was speaking to a chap who asked me my rod length . When i showed him he said that he thought that the rod was too small for someone my size. Is there a correct rod size depending on your size?

I'm 6' 5, fishing a 9' rod.

Not that I've heard of unless your a youngun where you might struggle with a long rod. I have come to my own conclusion that I prefer a 9' rod in size #5 and #6 but like a 10' rod in size #7 so that it is ideal for both boat and bank fishing. If just bank fishing I'd be happy with a 9' or 9'6" #7.

It's 9' with #7 line, I find easy to cast and it's lighter than rods that I have had in the past. Mybe the guy thought that cause I'm a big chap i could handle a larger rod.

I could handle a tractor but I aint gonna get one.

It's what your comfortable with at the end of the day. It's fair to say that the extra length can sometimes help when bank fishing such as when you have a high bank or bushes behind you but other than that I'd stick with what your comfortable with.

Mmm, sure he wasn't taking the pish ........... I'm nearly a foot shorter than you and I use a rod that suits the location not my height.

Ha, he sounded serious enough but you never know! He was about a foot shorter and fishing a 10 foot rod.

You never know mybe he was ripping the pish! Ha ha.

I was fishing a loch, you would think a 9' rod would be enough.

You must stop worrying about length, I think you will find that most men worry far to much over the length of their rods , What is far more important is the technique that you use. Their are several helpful websites that may go some way to stopping you worrying....
