Default River Carron, Stirlingshire

Hi,

I was out on the Carron on Saturady and decided to try the pools near the Crematorium. When I arrived the water was orange in colour so i intially though there must have been heavy rain overnight and the water was coloured due to clay being washed through with the rain etc...Although I dont know the water well yet, I didnt think the water was high, certainly not enough to warrant the colour.

Anyway, I decided not to bother and headed off homewards. On passing the bridge near the M876 i stopped just to have a look only to find the water running really clear

My point is, is the water constantly orange near Larbert? Is there burn/s running into the river close by that could be causing this colouration?

How can the water possibly be clear, approx 2 miles upstream...

Cheers,

HB

Could be iron oxide coming from an old pit.
This problem exists on the Glazert (Milton of Campsie) Dont think its toxic, but it clogs up the bottom, so no fly life!!!!!!!!!!

Used to live in Falkirk and have seen the same " orange water " this problem comes from the Bonny water , which flows in about 1/2 a mile down stream of the motorway bridge , it is from old flooded mines overflowing , but not sure if its iron or clay , good sport can be had in the river in this area though , both up and downstream of the Bonny , my largest in this stretch would be in the 1-1/2 lb range but have seen larger taken . Have lived in Glasgow for 8 yrs now but mention of the river has made me want to go and wet a line there in near future lol !
