Default lough Erne

Four of us fished L Erne yesterday for 3 trout.None on mayflies.Plenty of fly
in wet conditions in the morning but very few fish taking fly.Fished wet and dries myself to no avail.Had number of rises but no real interest.

I have only fished it once but found exactly the similar thing, ephemera vulgata hatching in moderate numbers but not a fish to be seen

Lovely water though

Fished it myself yesterday from 2pm, once the rain had stopped. Good hatch of mayfly up. Caught and lost a good fish on the dry, fishing the slicks, in glorious bright sunlight! Seen some fish feeding however they don't seem to be on it fully. Quite sporadic. Hope to get out again tomorrow.

I fished it on Friday and had one on wets at Loftus ,my pals stayed at Loftus all day and had 6 to the boat on a mixture of dries and wets ,There is a lot of fishing pressure in that area at the minute so i may concentrate on Melvin for a while till the boats spread out a bit .

I was up there on wednesday last for the first time. Lovely water! Had a fish of 1.5lb on a dry from the crannogs I think they are called. Agree with you about the fish not being switched on as it was the only rise I had. My partner hooked and lost a fish of at least 2 pound and I seen one lucky sod landing a 3lb trout on wet flies.
Its all about timing your visit I suppose. I envy the locals who can stay out until they get it right

Have to agree with the amount of boats in a concentrated location. I was out on Tuesday up at Eagle Point and at any one time when I looked over my shoulder at least 10 boats were drifting through the same water!!

Fortunately fly is up elsewhere on the lough so you can have some good fishing with a bit of peace and quite.

I know of a few drifts on the Upper Lough that contain good fly and trout, I think they might get hit this week, and one thing for sure I wont be disturbed by others.

Tight lines to all.....

You probably aren't doing anything wrong but most boats are getting fish which is a big change from last season ,there were a few boats with 4 and even 5 trout from the same areas yesterday so the trout are there you just have to keep on fishing and you will get fish ok

The Bear is right, there are some boats catching fish, but then again, there are alot more boats coming in with nothing! Speaking to a couple of seasoned anglers yesterday evening who have been on the lake several times over the last week with nothing to write home about... Plenty of fly and sporadic rises sums it up

There's always boats coming in with fish, no matter how well its fishing. IMO you have to put in the hours for a couple of trout...its not easy

I don't think I'll be rushing down myself with the reports I've had recently, so I'll save myself for the National on Owel
