Default Fishing South Wales - Advice please

Hello everyone

I'm going camping in wales with my GF this weekend and was wondering if anyone knows any decent lakes/tarns I could fish for trout in the south. Ideally with a campsite on or nearby (we'll wild camp if we can get away with it!), we have just bought an inflatable canoe as well which we'd like to have a go at fishing from, its quite heavy though so we couldn't walk to far from the road.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Gavin.

Start Here the wonderful "Fishing in Kite Country" web site.

Sadly the only place I know where you can use your own boat is the USK reservior - but I dont know what the rules for that are.

If you are in a "Fook Everybody Mood" - you could do no better than Llyn_Brianne where thanks to the generosity of spirit in Welsh Water - not only is canoeing forbidden, but so is fishing - any attempt to combine the two has my approval.

I think you can use your own boat at the Grynne Fawr reservoir. Might be able to find a bit of ruff camping near by But you will need a 4x4 to get the boat up there. Either that or carry it up the path at the side of the dam wall.

thanks for the info. unfortunately the car broke down before I even set off! Getting it fixed first thing and heading down to a campsite (Priory Mill Farm) near brecon, there's fishing available on the Honddu which runs along the side of the camp site.
Does anyone know if its worth a cast?

I'll just wait for Mr Lighthouse & Co to come back with the comments regarding whether the Honddu is worth cast. The river is a fantastic brown trout river. Enjoyio.

That's brilliant news. I believe there's a tributary of the Monnow which goes by the name of Honddu. I hope your talking about the Usk tributary!?

Tommythis,

I a must admit to being a little perplexed by your post above, you quote me giving information about a reservoir in the black mountains and then write what seems to me like a personal attack over a completely different fisheryThis should have been done by PM.

If you have a problem with the fishery have you.
A. Contacted the fishery owner?
B. Contacted the people whom you booked it through?

Frank

Hi Tommy,

Sorry you had a bad day on the Monnow System; but I must disagree with your comment! The Monnow is a fantastic river system, and provides some of the best Brown Trout fishing anywhere in the country!

I would advise you to re,think your decision; and perhaps give it another try with the help of some local knowledge. I'm sure Frank, or one of the regular contributors to the Monnow thread, would be happy to help and advise you on where, when and what to use, on the Monnow river system, which would ensure your of a far more enjoyable experience, the next time you fish there!

Mostyn
