Thanks for sharing. Great video footage, really liked the shots of emerging mayflies.

Apparently, it took attempts over four years to get the perfect close up shots of mayflies emerging in the river itself (rather than in a studio).

very nice paul

watching duns always make me think. they seem to hover almost on the water, yet I'd probably fish a paradun type fly which inevitabely would end up sunk/stuck in the film slightly. hmmmm...... back to the vice......

You may not need to be so hasty; slashing at a dun is a bit of a gamble for a trout. There's more chance it will miss or fly away; plus it takes more energy. A lot of the time fish prefer to take emergers - presumably because they have a higher hit rate.
They do seem to key in on high riding (or even flying!) duns on some occasions though (perhaps when they are popping out of the shucks more quickly??). I suppose in that situation, fastening onto the "prey image" of a dun is a more reliable way of getting the full protein package when you manage to nail one - compared to an empty shuck which you might get a lot of if you were to concentrate on the emerger "prey image"?

Dunno how you would test those speculations though....
