Default Camping with cheap/free river fishing in the Peak District

Hi,
A mate an myself are taking our good ladies and amassed offspring for their first taste of camping in July. We are off to the Peak as its not too far away. However we are both keen fishers and would like to escape for an hour or two to wet a line. Maybe even teach the eldest if the river is suitable. As we wont be getting much time it would be nice to not spend a fortune and I would be quite happy with little wild brownies from a brook.
So Has anyone got any suggestions for a kiddy friendly camp-site with local fishing.

Cheers.

Sheepy.

Greenhills http://www.greenhillsholidaypark.co.uk/index.html in Bakewell is the most kiddy friendly site I've stayed at. Just back from there myself. I'm sure you can get on the Wye, which flows through the middle of Bakewell. The stretch in the town is the best aquarium I've ever been to.

I think it's the reference to "cheap/free" river fishing (which the Bakewell Wye certainly isn't - the cost is proportional to the extent of the habitat works over the length of wild fishery run by the Haddon Estate).
http://www.thepeacockatrowsley.com/fishing.htm

It's also probably not the easiest introductory place for a youngster either.

At the moment the great majority of the river fishing in the Peak is not available by day ticket. The Trent Rivers Trust is working on setting up an angling passport scheme in the Peak District - though this is not yet established.

There used to be day tickets on the Dove in the Hartington region (used to be around £10; but again not the easiest environment for a beginner). For the most comprehensive info on this; visit the Flyfishing shop at Stockport and get your gear up to date. Their web pages (with fishing info) are on the link below:

Errrr!......Legal tape wrapped around your ducksfeet.

Whilst the camp site may be fantastic the River Wye could hardly be described as a brook.
The signs on the banks and the bridges telling people NOT to feed the fish would perhaps indicate that these fish are hallowed, loved and cared for 24/7/365.
Probably one of the only places in this country that does as it says on the signage.......100% prosecution.

Best leave your personal details so that sheepy can tell the magistrate you said it was 'free' fishing
Send warrenslaney(the keeper) a PM whilst your at it asking if its ok

He has enough work to do,in his 'best kept aquarium', without the supposedly educated members of this fishing community sending him customers to prosecute.

Sorry but I seem to have been picked up wrong. At no point did I mention feeding any fish, they just happen to be amazing to watch. I have no idea what it's like to get onto the Wye, but I wouldn't dream of fishing the town stretch even if I were given unrestricted access
As for the fishing, I didn't say "go and fish the wye" either, but Bakewell is in a good central position within the Peak District and there are plenty or waters around. There is also quite a good little shop in Hebden Court in the middle of Bakewell.
Again, apologies for any offence caused!!!!!!!

you can get on the Wye
The implication is quite strong......and I know you probably mean no harm

Happy hunting for 'Valhalla' sheepy......you will need local knowledge for this one.....but suggest the Sheffield/Derby side of the peak to have a 'CHANCE'
Good luck

We've got a cracking pond that is teaming with coarse fish. Fishing is £4 for the whole day and you catch and release until your hearts are content. Jnr can catch perch and roach while the rest of your party can battle with a carp called 'Shirley'. Tickets on the bank. Drive from Greenhills to Youlgrave and ask anyone, who ins't pushing themselves along on ski poles , where New Dam is. The place is at least 150 years old, but we haven't got around to changing its name yet.

You are all most welcome.
