I,ve always used a duncan loop for hooks,flies,dropers. I got a pack of riverge tipet rings, on the pack it shows a 5 turn untucked blood knot. so i gave it a try due to it being so popular. however i found it to be 1st class junk. I have to asume i,m tying it wrong due to it,s popularity. i put the nylon through the eye wrap the nylon round 5 times put it through the bottom gap and pull tight is this correct. ? it always pulls out with only average stress ? duncan loop 100% solid, you tube has it see what you think ? SORRY THIS WAS A BIG MISTAKE I WAS USING BAYER PERLON TO TRY THE KNOT

That is the correct way to tie it. What do you find bad about it

Yes you are doing it right , you need to be careful though as it can weaken or kink line as you pull it up . Wet the knot , pull the tag end at same time as pulling knot up . Or you could use the davy knot >>>http://www.pechetruite.com/Noeuds/Davy-knot.htm

I always Tuck my blood knots as I have problems with a normal blood. When you put it through the bottom gap, bring it back through the top and take care to wet and pull slowly and constantly.

I think we all have confidence in different methods.

I tuck them too, never had one fail. *touch wood*

I spent years tying that knot just as you describe it, for spinning lures, - and it worked flawlessly - I knew it as the "Half Blood".

Meanwhile I'd been taught that "The Knot" for a down-eyed fly was a Turle - so I used those for flies.

All was well - fish were caught - fish werelost - flies were lost to snags in the river and up trees - spinners ditto - but no knots failed.

Thirty years later - I return to fishing and start out on a small lake, with a carbon (not cane) rod - modern low diameter tippets and dodgy eyesight. So I tied on a medium small fly to the 7X leader got a take - and promptly lost fish and fly.

After some messing about, I have come to the conclusion that the half blood works for me ONLY on leaders 0.25mm and above - below that the Turle and the Davy (timber hitch) are more reliable.

The blood knot is an excellent knot and I don't care what any one says - tuck the end in., especially if you using that bloody awful fluorocarbon s****. If you are try a seven-turn blood-knot - with a tucked end.

i,ve tried it tucked and i still dont rate it. try a comparison with a duncan loop. you,ll see it on you tube.

A grinner is far to wastefull of material for using on droppers where you change the fly regularly.

sorry folks i,ve been trying it with bayer perlon ? when i tried the same knot with maxima it was fine no sliping at all. so thanks to all who comented Alan. Does anyone know what perlon is ?
