Default Tapered leaders, are they a waste of time?

The question is the same as above. I like to use tapered leaders where possible, especially in calm conditions with very little wind to turn the flies over. However I would like other people's opinions on the matter, feel free to vote and post your own opinions.

Any, it's up to you. It's more of a tapered vs. straight leaders poll.

depends on the length and whats on the end, if you fish a very small fly it would be very odd and expensive to have 12 feet of 4lb nylon.

Hi Guys

Until i learned to make own tapered leaders by stepping down line sizes there was no way i could cast a 15ft,18ft leader. Im convinced i catch more fish. I just tie mine up at the water takes a few seconds !

I can only admire your knot tying capability Englander.

Knotless braided leaders for me ........... might be expensive but the time they last makes them real value for money and they turn over better.

Tapered leaders are a must; bought, or made up! - I have also made up tapered leaders while fishing; sometimes after tangling with trees etc, I will make one up from 10LB, 8Lb, 6LB, 4LB, with a tippet of either 2-or3LB the leader length would be anything between 12ft and 18ft, for river fishing, with a team of three flies for wet & nymph, and a single fly for dry!

I have also used knot-less tapered leaders of 12,and15ft, not that much advantage over making your own!

I must admit to carrying to much when I'm fishing!

I use loop to loop attachment but otherwise just the same tapered leader with ring to attach the tippet. The leaders last a lot longer this way, you only need to replace the tippet section.

Plus you can use the ring to attach a dropper if you need to.
