Default Fry Flies under the bung ?? as read in TF

A question for the 'panel' , if I may?

I read in this months TF how a few chaps have been fishing a quarry with fry flies under a bung.

Now, how or why would they do this?

Do they fish it static or draw it back slowly?

If drawing it back slowly, then why not fish it straight-line?

Some marvellous catches though so it must work but I am a bit confused as to how you would fish a minkie under a bung.

Look forward to a few responses.

thanks

Ben

Guys, any idea why it works though with fry imitations?

Do the trout think it is a dead or dying fish? Are trout scavengers too?

I know that many predators go for a weak or wounded fish; do you think the fry/bung method imitates this?

i dare say it could you have to remember the underwater current will be moving the long tails on lures so a fry imitation could look like an injured fish imo

My guess is that it stays in a potential feeding area longer, Trout like any predator will scavenge and a bait immitation fished static with a twitch now and again should work. Doubt it would catch many wild fish though.

In contrast there is a letter in the T&S about a similar method a reader saw on the bank of a reservoir. Obviously in this publication there was a certain amount of shock and despair.

Basically two fisherman were fishing blood worm imitations or a team of buzzers under a floating indicator (if I remember right) whilst sitting on chairs.

What ever next, coarse fisherman using imitations of fly pupae ..........

Indeed Carlos, some people forget that sometimes, just sometimes, there may be people who cant move around too well, are old and infirm, or might just be plain lazy..................either way, there is nothing wrong with a few individuals just chilling out and fishing their buzzers/nymphs under a bung whilst it drifts around in the breeze.

It's still fly fishing!!!

Definatly, and as someone else mentiond, these patterns fish much better in a wave or good ripple which enhances the pulsations.
Many years back when Mark Sutcliffe was editor of T.F., he came out and did a feature with me on fishing the zoro,
The Zoro was/is a black zonker, white fritz body, green/orange tag tail fished under the Bung on Small waters.
I'tl work anywhere, Small waters or large ressys.
Alway's allow the bung to hold under firmly before striking, and don't worry about the fish swallowing the fly as they are always hooked in the mouth, basically they run with it first, the fly will be sideways in the jaws for a few seconds before they close there mouths on it.
