After 30 years of fly fishing I caught my first fish on a Peter Ross this summer - so I suppose the Peter Ross can catch one fish! Just it lives in a wee Loch on Islay not in Loch Tay!

In the days when the "Green Dispatch" (the Saturday sports edition of the Edinburgh Evening Dispatch) carried an angling column by Tam Tain, the best-performing flies of the week on Loch Leven, as reported in the paper, often included a size 16 double Peter Ross. Others at that time were Bloody Butcher, Grouse and Claret, Greenwell's Glory and Woodcock and Mixed. How times change! (and that was before HMFC had ever been known as the Jambos - they were just "The Hertz")

Well, went to Loch Tay all day yesterday and caught nothing using the Fly (still was a good days practice though!). Tried many wet flies and started for the first time using a dropper and I have to say - using a dropper is easier than I thought it would be.

And although I caught nothing with the Fly I did catch a nice Perch (just over 1lb) using the maggot. My two mates I was with caught absolutely hee haw. We were fishing at the Killin end and we were dissappointed that the Permit didn't cover the eastern end of the Loch as we were wanting to go up the Kenmore end sometime in the afternoon but not to worry - there's always the next time.

I have to say - that's the first time I have been to Loch Tay and what a beautiful Loch it is.

Thanks for everyones suggestions for flies.
