Default How many fish make a good day?

How many fish landed does it take you to class a days fishing as good?
(Just a bit of fun - not indtended to start a debate on fishing ethics, slanderous stereotypes and get anyone hot under the collar )
And yes, I know catching 5 wild salmon a day is very diferent from 5 stocked rainbows in a puddle.

Fish are inflationary. The more you have, the less each is worth. One is a million times better than none, two is a little bit better than one but not two million times better than none. 20 is very nice thank you, but you can't appreciate each one. More than the bloke next to you is sufficient.

The old cliché "A bad day's fishing is better than a good day in the office" applies here too.

Don't really go fishing not to catch, so one makes the day. Two is good and any more than three makes it special. Not really bothered about big fish, small fish tend to be nicer to look at.

Yesturday is a good example of why my vote goes for "Just fishing is good enough - catching anything is a bonus."
The sun was on my back , there were ducks and their little ones on the water , swans doing "their thing" . Swallows picking up some snacks at great speed off the water .
Also there was a good hatch of all types of wee beasties . I found a quiet spot where the water was buzzing and waited .... Very soon i saw 2 big trout feeding up ahead of me and sssllllllooooooowwwwwlllyyyyy punted up to them with one oar . My heart was in me throat and beating way to fast to be within safe limits A number of times i had a chance to flick my offering out into the path of the feeding and moving fish .
As near as i came to hooking one was when it came up and pushed my fly with its nose I was sure i would die at any moment from a heart attack
On my way back in at the end of day i had a really good feeling of well being and i knew just how lucky i am and how great life can be
As for the trout ???? Well there is always tomorrow

While you can enjoy your day out if you don't catch anything, personally, a blank day does not usually mean ive had a good day's fishing!

I tend to stalk individual fish be they large ones on a small stillwater, or tricky fish from a river. If i can land one large fish, or one particularly tricky one, that'll do me. It'll give me a few memories for the journey home and until the next time.

It's all relative I suppose. One fresh run Salmon will make any anglers day. One trout in a day from some of the more productive lochs I fish would be a cause for concern!
As brownie basher says, catching one very tricky fish can be enough to make it a highly memorable day.
It comes down to what your expectations are, and what you want to get out of your fishing.

I voted for option one, but it was a close call with no.2. It is always nice to catch something, but my main thing is just getting away from everything to go fishing!
