Have they ever fished before ?

For total non fishermen, I would suggest an indicator and bloodworm / buzzer, at least they should catch.

Can't beat a cats, damsel or a blob either and they'll get some casting practice in.

Don't forget a few Blobs icky! Fred Stillwater Angler sells the best. His bloodworm variants are deadly too.

As for naturals, some terrestrials like Foam beetles, Hawthorn Fly and Daddies and of course Mayflies. Some of your Klinkhammers might do well if there's any surface feeding, ditto Suspender Buzzers and Shipmans.

If things are tough, small dull patterns like a Kate McClaren fished very slow can work. It's not all fluorescent fritz and pink marabou!

Have a look in the returns book, most people write down what worked for them and speak to the staff, they want you to catch fish and return another day.

Hope you all have a good day.

Do stillwaters have showers so that you can wash the shame from your body before you go home

Icky

You going to give yourself grief.

Even with your many talents teaching four people to fish from zilch knowledge each is a very tall order.

People go to classes for this at the big rezzies just to learn to cast let alone never mind everything else.

Any more than one person at a time is murder.

Go ill and think again!

Never mind stillwater or river bit!

NOOOOOOO! ok i have done and will continue to do the casting on the field bit, i have made it clear that on the day i will tie leaders/droppers, but on the day it will be pretty much solo flying ...... watch that, if it dissapears..lift, pull the line like this if you feel a pull .. lift...

terms and conditions have been agreed

also alan is coming along, it will be more like one on one to be fair

Why don't you teach them about the best things in fly fishing rather than some of the worst? You underestimate people. There don't need to catch on their first trip, they need to see and improve and feel they can attain. Bungs and boobies aren't what fly fishing is about, they are the lowest common denominators. You can cope with four on a river as long as they help you abit.

An alternative suggestion: get them started with a single lure or traditional wet (or any fly that will work when pulled).

Fishing a 'pulling' style will get them casting regularly which will surely help them develop their casting skills more than fishing under a bung?
The reason for a single fly should be obvious - less likelihood of tangles.

Showers aren't usually provided Ickypimp - you will just have to live with the shame 'til you get home!!
