Default Single blob?

Hi I have read about how effective this method can be but what I don't understand is why is it more effective then 2 blobs? And how do you fish this method?

Thanks
Tom

Hi tomleslie
the blob can be fished with either one two or three blobs together it does not matter wheather its one or three its very lethal either ways to fish the blob there's three ways very fast, tweaking, figure 8 if you have three on very fast, two on fast and quick figure 8, one slow figure of 8 or short pulls try to variery the retreive if you have two blobs on to quick figure 8, and some short pulls, one one slow figure of 8 and put some tweaks in there i find thease methods very leathal let me know how you get on tight lines jimc1234

It's not always more effective, but it CAN be, especially on hard-fished waters. The rationale is that the fish are used to seeing two or three flies fishing one behind the other, in tandem, in a straight line. A single blob is - and I can't believe I'm saying this - more natural (ie a more natural presentation). Same goes for any fly, not just blobs. It's the same reason that some fish with 20ft leaders with two lures spaced 14ft apart.

With regards your second question, the key would be to fish it on a reasonably long leader (say 14ft). As far as depth/retrieve style goes, that will depend on the prevailing conditions on the day. Experimentation is the key - if it's not working then try something else. Rainbows can be surprisingly picky when it comes to the depth and style of retrieve.

Alex

Hope that helps

Alex

Forget the Blobs, and stick on a Pheasant Tail Nymph instead.
