Default River Cairn

Looking for a bit of info if anyone can help. I have access to a complimentary ticket on the river cairn (Dumfries) and the ticket states cairn only M-F. Even the owners don;t seem to know what this M-f bit means. I still have my old maps from when i used to be a member of the association but there is nothing on this that states that different sections of the river have letters.
Thanks.

Never even thought of that. Just as well nobody asked for a look at the ticket yesterday.

Hi,Jinky,
welcome to the Forum,i have fished the cairn for 40 years,
But now have given my ticket up to concentrate on loch fishing,
The cairn, apart from some private stretches, but not many,
Comes under Dumfries & Galloway Angling Association,
Visitors cannot fish on Saturdays, its members only
There used to be a long waiting list years ago,
But i think they don't have one now and you should make inquires
into joining which means you could fish the Nith and the Cairn
And you could fish on a Saturday.
Its £125 first year then £90 after that, you really need someone to show you the cairn,
Its not as well looked after as it was, and is quite overgrown, too many trees.
Its stocked in May with broonies.

Cheers for the welcome. I was a member many years ago but juniors could get a ticket no problem. I have been vey slowly been getting back into fly fishing and i must admit the state of the Cairn is slightly worryong. Even the lower reaches in bygone days used to be teeming with fish from trout to grayling but the last time i fished the Burgh water i saw next to nothing. What happened? Bad management, overfishing or have the poachers just destroyed it?

Prob ally a bit of everything, when stocked with Broonies members are allowed 4 a day,
some members fish it day after day with mepps and worms which is allowed,
And they just clean them out,
i don't know what they do with them, i heard one member had over 40 in his freezer,
Being a small tree lined river the Cairn was heavily poached,
Because its now under fished the paths are all overgrown.
and it can be heavy going,
Latterly i just fished fly for Salmon, and always had at least two per season,
But i did not fish it heavy,
i have heard of some members taking 16 a season from it, all on the worm,
But between the lines a lot of these fish being colored, should have been returned,
The cairn is a spate river and needs water,
Theres one section called the Rocks the association have one side the other is owned by a Farmer who sells tickets.
This part of the river is all rocks, and when the fish are running they pile in to rest before running the rapids,
Ive heard of anglers false hooking 40 a day,
Because of this, its well watched by bailiffs,
And a lot of genuine anglers wont go near it.
