Default Any float tubers or kayakers on here?

We've got some fisheries in the west of Cumbria containing wild brown trout and pike which I understand have never really had their potential explored by tubers and kayakers.

Crummock Water, Buttermere and Loweswater (the pikiest) can all be explored by these craft, and as part of the Cumbrian Fishing Festival in May, it might be fun for people who like fishing this way to try theses National Trust controlled waters.

If there's any interest, I'll investigate if some extra parking in the area (notoriously short) can be made available.

I could be wrong here David but isn't Loweswater fly only until June 16??

It might be worth noting for anyone intending targetting Pike on Loweswater with baits or lures.

Hi guys,

Does the close season for coarse fish not apply in the Lakes?

No they're considered lakes, rather than part of a river system which they are in fact.

It doesn't apply in that you can fish but there are no maggots or deadbaits allowed untill June 16, search EA website for byelaws to confirm if in doubt.

i'd love to say i was a float tuber, but i'm not, yet!

i have all the gear now but just not managed to get out on it yet, i have a snowbee uboat tube and it seems quite comfortable and not too bad for inflating, but i really cant wait to get out there and try it out on some open water

Viper, when you do go out for the first time, make sure it isn't a large water on a windy day.
Try and sort your paddling out first, that's what I found the hardest.
Good fun though.

I bought a tube for use on Hanningfield only to be told that, due to 'elf and safety' that I wasnt allowed out..............seems they were concerned that a boat could run me over.

Erm, I think a boat would see me and, with a 5hp motor on the back, I reckon I could out-paddle a boat

So now I am stuck with a brand new tube and little place to use it.

Chigboro allows the use of tubes but their biggest lake doesnt do C&R in summer so, again, little use for me.

You guys up North are rather lucky in this respect!

Sigh, anyone want a new tube - cheap deal....

that said, it is some of the best fun you can have sitting down. Did loads of tubing in SA and you dont need specialist tackle at all - we used 8'6" # rods to good affect though 9-10'ers may be better for a longer back cast.

One does miss it

Ben
