Default WTT or SaTA

who gets your money and why ??

I am not currently a member of any organisation, i dont agree with the angling trust as i think the various sectors of anglers all have differing needs.. i digress

both the WTT and the SATA are registered as charities, both appear to do some good work...

anybody anything to say that might sway me one way or t'other

Arguably, they complement each other.

WTT is a hands-on organisation that offers practical help to riparian owners and anglers. SATA by contrast operates in the public domain, doing lobbying, Government committee membership and so on. Also it covers salmon and sea trout as well as trout. I am a member of both organisations.

You can't do much better than to support the WTT as they do fantastic work, there is a feeling that having declined (or declared itself unable) to join the Angling Trust, the SATA have lost support from some anglers.

WTT for it's brilliant contribution towards the maintenance of the correct habitats for wild trout in this country.

And also the Atlantic Salmon Trust for it's similarly sterling efforts in researching and trying to maintain stocks of sea trout (as well as salmon).

I think the S&TA is a little too angling oriented... but that's just an opinion.

i am led to believe by Ellis Morgan of the southern sata that due to charitable status they were not able to join inspite of being instrumental in its formation

That's what I heard but it still means that they are a bit out on a limb now and there is a feeling in some parts of Wales that they are not really interested in anything much outside the chalk streams or big name salmon rivers.

The WTT tends to kick start projects. The maintenance is usually carried out by people with a long term interest in the river or stream who have been shown the way to go by those connected with the Trust.

I support both but if I had to choose it would be The Salmon and Trout Association.

Here is what the new Fish & Fly directory says about them:

I worry that WTT will not have the same drive following the departure of a very effective Director in Simon Johnson.

No offence meant to my friend here PIB.

Opposite for me despite the fact that Simon Johnson will be leaving we now have at WTT a very capable young man in the chair in Charles Rangeley Wilson as President or as we know him on here and other places Accidental Angler.

Icky it may be worth searching on here for The Salmon and Trout Association as I put out a thread a few months ago which drew some "different" replies about them.
