Default fave dry fly?

whats yours?

at the minute im obsessed with roys reversed parachute emergers, they make so much sense.

the hackle supports the heaviest part of the fly, and disguises the point better IMHO than say a klinkhamer. also the way the hook eye leads the tippet under th surface film works perfectly.

I like to fish these on a 2 fly leader, with a normal dropper set up, with the parachute on the dropper, and a hares ear nymph on the point- the nymph gives enough weight to pull the tippet under the surface much like degreaser would. so basically a dry/dropper set up! works nicely though.

works a bit better for me than tying to the hook bend, especially with this style of hook and damage is very limited from trouts teeth

Black gnat is my favourite. Specifically with a pearl wing, and maybe a pearl rib.
Sorry, haven't got a better photo than this one. By the way - that's a small fish - not a big fly! Sz 14 or 16.

Like the look of that reverse parachute! Nice.

Err, wouldn't that be an emerger and not a dry?

would you say a klinkhamer is a dry? would you say a clipped hackle is dry?

it imitates an insect in/on the surface, there my criteria for a dry

At the moment my favourite would be my own Greenwell's Variant.

Worked really very well last season, remains to be seen how it goes this one, but I've great confidence in it so I reckon it will work just as well.

I'm also very fond of a simple Grey Duster, very rarely fails.

Parachute Adams for me with the Klink a close second. Not got a vast range in my box at the moment so I'll probably change my mind before the season is out :P

It changes weekly or monthly with me.
There are maybe a hardcore of 5 or 6 staples.
