Default Can anyone tell what this is used for?

Carlos' has a great thread going on center pin reels and one of the posters put in a link that lead me this. But 'clueless' as to its function/purpose. It's called a "Korum Twin Rod Buzz Bar." There are a few other bits and pieces on the same web page that fit the 'what the heck are those' too.

They are for carp/specimen fishing. Idea is you put an electronic bite alarm on each screw fitting on the buzz bar , that goes on a rod pod, that sits on the ground, you cat out, place your 2 rods on the pod, you fall asleep and wait for a deafening shrill to alert you to the fact that a fish may have taken your bait.

You omitted, in between placing 2 rods on the pod and falling asleep, either consuming several cans of strong lager or lighting up a big fat "camberwell carrot". Or, indeed, both.

Fred. You could be excused for thinking it would accommodate a vee shaped gadget at each end to hold your rods whilst having a kip, waiting for a carp to nip in and nab yer boilies.

No, I think it's something more sinister. Yes, it's for brothers named Rod you can electrocute them two at the time

Be warned, Rods.

Now that is interesting that coarse anglers are thought of as beer swilling, hash smoking lazy sods!

Had a walk to my local trout fishery yesterday..anglers sat on logs, bright orange indicators floating around the loch, two chaps with there rods in rests, several with empty tins of beer at there feet and one wee group pretty much stoned.

I have to say, I have seen some pretty disgraceful behaviour at trout fisheries in the past, mostly surrounding booze and swearing/shouting across the water.

I remember a story about a guy in the Midlands. Divorced (there is a surprise), after work he went carp fishing and only returned home in the morning to wash so that he may go to work....and obviously the cycle continues. Apparently he wasn't the only individual who did this and some lakes are manned night and day.

That 'gear' wouldn't last 10 minutes on a Steelhead river. A 'take' would rip it to bits. The 'normal' rod holders you'd see in my part of the world are frequently 'hand made' from about a 2' wide metal tube (capped at the bottom' and a 3 foot sand spike welded onto the side. Take a rock off the beach and pound in the spike and you're good to go.

Depending upon the make up of the beach, these things can hold a really ****** off 20#'er until you can get to your rod and slip it out of the tube. The fishing technique is called 'plunking.'

Edit: here's a bit more on how it's done. The pictures show the rod holders (not too well).

Not all by any means, most keen coarse fishers are a credit to themselves and to our sport, but there is this brain-dead minority in carp fishing.

The point was well made by John Aston in his excellent book "A Dream Of Jewelled Fishes" that the carp is a noble and sporting target species and deserves better than to be associated with the (ahem) low end element of anglers. John posts on here from time to time, btw.
