Default boat cost Ullswater

I am looking at visiting ullswater in the lake district this year I have been told a boat can be had for £25 hour
Does anyone know an angler friendly boat hire company!
looking at about 6 hours afloat drifting, but i am not paying £25 an hour for a rowing boat! maybe for the day!!!!!!
I have my own electric outboard battery etc

I will do some asking around Phil and get back to you.
A friend of mine guides on Ullswater, he was in T&S mag this month.
You could give him a try, probably wouldn't be that much more, and you have a ghillie thrown in.
I think his contact details are in the article.

Phil,

Jarrod at St Patricks of Glenridding hires out an angler's fancy for around 35 quid a day - that if me or my mate haven't booked it already

Thats the one draw back with Ullwater as a visiting angler - Jared has the only two boats on the whole bl**dy lake you can book for a whole day! I suppose compared to hourly pleasure boat rates £35 for the day is good, but its still a lot for a boat for a day (compared to ressie boat prices). Oh well, at least the fishing itself is free and to be fair, Jared's boats were quite good with decent electric engines and spare battery (although it was a good few years back when I used them).

I've personally found it to be a bit of a tough cookie at times - the elements play a big part. But if you catch it on a day when it isn't a) blowing a gale and frankly dangerous, or b) a flat calm, then there is plenty of sport to be had with small wild brownies on trad loch style.

A fish over 1lb is a cracker, but you should see plenty of sport to half pound fish with an odd better one thrown in. There is a moderate mayfly hatch in the right conditions.

Local knowledge is important - it's a massive water and it pays to have some idea of the hotspots. As a general guide, stick to the shoreline and fish the bays and beck mouths.

Of course the scenery is first class, whatever the fishing is like.

This forum's Terry Cousin knows the water far better than I and I'm sure he will expand some, if he catches sight of this thread....

Matt

Being quite close to the Lakes I have been visiting a few times but always as a family day out, no rods allowed. Will have to have a day on one sometime.

There is such a thing as fishing from the bank - and it's free!!! Why get hung up about having a boat? Remember, most of the drifting is done around the edges.
