I was out on Holl on Friday and had some spectacular fishing. Trying out my new rod for the first time and it cast like a dream, picture me thinking 'this must be how luke felt' when he turned on his light sabre for the first time'
I had 6 on a snow leopard within the first couple of hours each at around the 3lb mark 4 kept.
I then asked the fishery manager if it would be ok to go up to Harperleas and give that a try as I'd never been up there before. It was fine to do so and after making my way gingerly up to the resevoir I was gobsmacked by the beauty of the place, which I had all to myself. The local farmer was passing and he stopped for a natter whilst I was looking over his shoulder almost salivating at the number of surface boils and splashes. I made my way along the dam wall casting a single kate mclaren which Mr Barker on here had tied and it was knock after knock but not being used to these wildies I was struggling to lift into the takes fast enough. Finally I got the pace and managed to land a couple of 1/2 lb wild brown trout (hastily released with great care), and I can really see what the guys who go on about being overjoyed to catch one of these things mean. It was a spectacular experience. I'd had 6 rainbows that morning but these little brown trout stole my soul they were amazing even at that weight on a #7 rod I knew I had caught something with the scrap they put up - amazing.
Truly a 'fishing heaven' day and I would highly recommend a trip to Lomon Hills fishery if you have never been before.
