Default Using PayPal 'Gift' option

A gentle warning to PayPal users on the Forum.

I have used the 'Gift' option when paying Forum members for the odd bits-n-bobs to save on fees.

PayPal actually contacted me along the lines of......

'Gee Sir, you have alot of friends that you send 'Gifts' to'
'we just wished to check these were correct'

So, perhaps, I had better be careful for a while.

Of course, this was after I had sent a severe missile up their fundements about the illegal payment made from my PayPal account to some internet hosting company that I had never made nor even heard of the recipient company. Managed to claw the money back but perhaps I am now on the 'hit list'

Cheers

Ben

I understood the Gift option means no one is charged or the sender is charged a minimal amount in comparison to the receiver or in comarison to what you would be charged if using the usual method.

Would anyone like to comment on this??

I have never paid a fee when sending as a gift.

When you go to pay click "personal" then "gift" and fee's will be saved both ways.

Perhaps due to the very nature of the "abuse" of the Gift option they've now made it so that if you want to send a "gift" to UncleFlyTyingSupplies.com they get their cut whatever way it is stacked!!

Shows how often you pay for stuff Toby

I always pay a truck load of cash extra when I'm buying zillions of packs of that most excellent Funky Fibre you sell

Fli

It shouldnt matter either way as I take this directly from my Bank Account and I dont believe I have ever been charged.

As an aside, I would never use the Gift option outside of this Forum as if the item is 'lost'/never sent etc then you have no comeback. I feel safer using it here on, with Forum people that I know

It may depend on the amount also.

I've sent numerous amounts for one thing and another some times I have to pay a charge others times I don't

Ah Rob, that's just the juggernaut of eBay and PayPal and the monopoly they have - they can do what they want, when they want and b*gger the lot of you!!!

Hence why I love this Forum for gaining knowledge, making friends and bagging the odd bargain and it doesnt cost me a penny (well, apart from the odd rod and reel)

However, since eBay began charging 10% for every listing, I wonder how popular they will remain.

I mean, imagine selling a car for £10K - thats a £1k profit for doing near enough nowt!

rather cheeky if you ask me!
