Default straightline nymphing?

This phrase seems to be in vogue at the moment but I'm a little confused about what it means. Is it another phrase to describe the washing line method, or does it mean "normal" stillwater nymph fishing without a bung, or something else?

Hello Jeff

To me it means a team of 3/4 nymphs fished very slowly on a floating line with heaviest on the point to cover a range of depths.

Thats what I was meaning by "normal" - as in stillwater setups anyway - but I got the impression it might have meant something else Ah well, 88 views and yours is the only attempt at an answer so far, so thanks for that!

Where's that wobbler chappy gone...I think he was using the term when talking to me the other day....

Hi jeff ,Jcp has pretty much summed it up,what i regard straight line nymphing is on a floater with a leader 18ft long, with a cast say for example 4 flies ,6ft to your first fly and 4ft in between the rest,my cast usually consists of a diawl bach on top, cruncher, another diawl bach and on the tail an epoxy buzzer, fished dead slow, just keeping in touch and watching the tip of your floater for any takes .
