To Rise A Trout by John Roberts was the most useful one I read when I started out. Good stuff about trout vision, presentation, stalking and the different styles of dry flies.

Tactical Fly Fishing by Pat O'Reilly is a good all round book for river fishing. Clear and concise, I'd recommend it highly.

"In the ring of the rise" by Vincent Marinaro.
IMHO the most imformative book you will ever read on the subject.

Matching The Hatch by Pat O'Reilly is the best, with due respect to all other contributions.

With all "due respect" Matching The Hatch is a great book, peerless in fact, if you're looking for a book on how to interpret entomolgy from a fly fisher's point of view. It does not cover tactics, river craft and presentation etc etc. So it depends what Del was after

With all due respect there are those who have read and understood "in the ring of the rise" and there are those who have not.
