Default first post first trip out

Hello every one!
This is my first post and i am hoping to go on my first fly fishing trip during the easter bank holiday.
I have got a rod and reel and a small colection of flys all ready to go. I have been reading books and magazines and i have been practasing casting on the lawn. I feel like i am ready to go but i am yet to do one thing! I have not bought a licence yet,The reason being that i am unsure which to get.

The rivers where i will be doing the majority of my fishing, sea trout and salmon is very popular.
My experienced friend who will be taking me with him is very much after salmon and sewin.
Personaly i am not really intrested in the salmon as my gear is no way up to it. I am intrested in the trout, but not the sea trout and the difference in licence is huge! As you know the two licences available are either with or without slamon and sea trout.
The problem is can my local river provide enuph fishing for me just fishing for nonmigratory trout? Is getting the cheaper licence a sensible option?

I know most will not have the answers but any info on where i can find out this sort of information or any of your own experiences wolud be very greatfully recieved.

Thanks

Rhys

Hi NoClue

Firstly welcome to the forum Rhys

The Welsh contingent on the forum will be better suited to answer parts of your question......with local knowledge.

I would suggest that if the river is producing SeaTrout .....then they are but a Brown Trout that has been on its holidays to the seaside.......so Brownies must be in the system.
There's also a possibility of Grayling too dependant on which river......and these guys will keep you occupied through the winter months.

If at some stage you find the 'want' to try for a 'silver tourist' and odd time or two .....simply buy a one day or one week licence.....and it still wont total the cost of the 'Migratory' permit. Then maybe next year you will have it a little clearer in your mind the direction you want to go.
