Default Numb3rs

What is the forum's opinion of an angler, in his 50's, who is still obsessed with catching as many fish as possible? He plays the numb3rs game and can always tell you exactly how many he's caught, "lost" and "missed".

Our C & R water, a 7˝ acre reservoir, was recently stocked and this angler, who'd already caught 26 fish that morning, proceeded to fish over the stocked fish - as they were still being stocked, and "hammer" them on a lure.

He is a mate of the owner, who was present at the time, and, to his credit, helps around the fishery.

It's still not the done thing, in my book

This guy fishes most days and, like today, only managed one fish from the bank then he'll complain like hell that, "he doesn't know where the stock-fish have got to".

A "fudd"?

Tommy, he really should have grown up a bit by now but I suppose it's whatever floats your boat.

This type of fishmongering is normally associated with those new to the sport and most anglers quickly move on to firstly big fish and then more challenging fish, may be some people never grow up. The saddest thing is that he probably thinks he's some type of good angler! Maybe the fishery owner can have a quiet word.

It's unfortunate but sport seems to breed this type of character. I have a cricketing mate who can give you his batting average to two decimal places and is renowned for running people out trying to boost his average ( I can avoid this by watching his eyes ,if they are getting bigger he is running so I send him back ,I have another mate who rock climbs and is obsessed with ticking off the routes in the guide books. If they fished then I suppose they would be like the chap in the thread ,I still like them though .As an aside I caught 6 Tommy Ruffes in a row coarse fishing the local canal yesterday evening
