I fished on the isle of Lewis there is hundreds of lochs to fish full of wild browns and they are all free fishing i asked and was told its free as long as you keep away from the salmon pens i even asked a police man just in case, there are some stocked fisheries you do pay at but why pay with all them wild fish for free, catching them is another thing, but you will have some fun trying its some of the best fishing iv ever had hope you have a good time and don't forget the report, and defo buy a midge net

There are as Fusion has pointed out hundreds of lochs to chose from and a good place to start on your arrival in Stornoway would be a visit to The Underground, where Ian Don the owner or Paul will furnish you with the appropriate flies and tips on which lochs are fishing well.

Unfortunately i go away for my two week stint offshore on Monday and would have shown you a couple of lochs had i been at home. However a couple worth trying on the Harris road just past Lurbost are Tholovat and Rithanan which hold good 1lb plus fish and are easy to walk to. Bernera on the West side of the island has a few good lochs as does the Uig area further West.

I would be using the usual traditional flies in a size 12, Blae and Black, a Zulu, Kate Maclaren etc etc. The best news though is that you should be ok on the midge font as they don't tend to make an appearance until next month.

I'm sure that you will have a good time and send me a PM after your trip.

Tight Lines, Calum
