I cant relate a fly fishing tale to suit as I have only been twice since I took the sport up.
However fishing for chub one day, a friend and I used identical rods, brand and strength line, rig, hook, bait you name it. I know the rigs were identical as I tied all his for him
We were casting into the current and letting the flow drag the rigs round on a tight line, and drop into a hole on the Teme. Our hookbaits must have been finishing no more than a foot or two apart.
That day he took 9 chub and 2 barbel, and i never had a knock all day.
He even swapped positions and rods with me halfway through out of mercy and guilt, and still I did not have so much of a touch.
Sometimes, you can fish perfectly and have a stinker of a day. Other days you can fish like a **** and bag up.
Just hope at the end of your fishing days, you can look back and reflect that you had at least one of the latter for every couple of the former.
