Default Help reading lakes: where to fish

Hi there everyone,

Rivers seem to be a little easier to read than lakes. You look for a foam line, quieter type water, drop offs, guts, head or run, tail of run, bolders or any obstruction that can cause a change in current rows which allow the fish to sit and feed nicely.

Lakes AHHH!!!!! I look at a lake and see a huge amount of water, where are the fish (in the water :-))), but where is a good starting point..

any dropoffs or near the shore
Get a plumbers 15-30mt tape in fiberglass.Put a 4-8 oz lead on the end and plumb your lake depths. the fish will be at a certain depth, and should be at that depth all over the lake. you just have to find out the
depth.

The wind line plays an important part in lakes, often in the warmer months fish with the wind behind you and cast to the ripple or were muck from trees are hitting the water, lots of food there, anywhere there is tree overhang, lillies ,reeds ,clumps of weed , deep pools and so on hold fish, but fish will follow food sources so wind plays a part, in winter i often fish into the wind as near the bank is a under current and yet again an area of food.Dont worry about knowing everyting about fluff chucking ,think of it as a big learning curve that never ends , an adventure Ask the fishery manager or locals as they will know more about the water

Just look around the water to see were the other fishermen are.
