Alternatively, there is a superb DVD that will help:

DVD Much to be recommended. It was the only specific spider tuition I had had before I tried fishing spiders for the first time. I caught nine fish using largely the upstream technique Oliver demonstrates - so it works. Also the DVD by OE in the same series (confusingly covering nymphs and spiders) is very good and this one covers spiders fished in a way more like what you might know as the "wet fly swing".
More generally I suspect any technique that would present the fly looking like either a partially or drowned insect
or ones struggling to emerge would work. To paraphrase another website - whatever the trout take them for, one thing is clear - it's FOOD!
