Tried Xink yesterday for the first time and it didn't always seem to work.
I put a drop on the fly itself and on the leader (a drop or two on my fingers and run the leader through it).
Other than an oily stain on the surfae when it first hit the water, there wasn't always an obvious effect.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

yup.... dont bother with it.... ok it will be useful for flies that get stuck in the surface film that you want sunk, but try fullers earth in its various forms to sink your leader, it wont cause the oily slick and will last a bit longer. if your fishing stillwater, a gentle pull on the flies should pull them through the surface, on a river, a quick mend should be enough.
