Default Lessons / fishing "close" to N London and beginner equipment advice

Hi All

Went on a few fly fishing days last year and looking to get more seriously into the game.

Want to do a lesson or two and try my hand on a river / lake without spending a fortune / traveling miles. Any recommendations on good instruction / cheap (or free) river / lake fishing in proximity of North London appreciated (fully expect to travel a bit!).

As far as equipment goes....my "value" beginner set up is shaping up as below, tell me im not making any silly choices. I want a general set up that allows me to try most waters bar the extremes.

Rod: 4 piece Shakespeare Odyssey 8'6'' #5/6 (want portability)
Reels: greys GLA / Okuma
Lines: whatever pitsford pirate advises

Cheers guys

Is there such a thing as cheap fly fishing? River Trout fishing seems somewhat lacking in our part of the world, I'm certainly unaware of any.

Good luck with the rest though and welcome to the forum, lots of info and advice to be found here.

Regarding lessons I would recommend you get in touch with Brett O'Connor who is a masters AAPGAI instructor. He does lessons at Walthamstow and an hour with him will be money well spent

If you want cheap fishing then if your not to many miles away Halliford mere is only £20 allday for C/R , they used to have a non-resident instructor there but im not sure if hes still about. It might be worth giving them a ring , i your interested or pop down http://www.hallifordmere.co.uk/ ask for Brian
