Default trout in the town project

what do people think of this project?
http://www.wildtrout.org/index.php?o...=82&Itemid=311
i think its a brilliant idea i have been asking around my local area as we have a stream running through our town the river drone that could do with the sort of thing they do

Quote:
Its objectives are to improve the quality of river habitat in urban areas for the benefit of trout and wider biodiversity, and to raise awareness of wild trout as a totem species for clean water and living rivers. This will be achieved through the formation of local community groups who will adopt their local urban stream.
but know body round here seems interested

here are some photos of my local stream (the bad ones first)

its a shame some people dump stuff in it

in some places though you could imagine trout swimming past though

It's a great idea and should be taken up everywhere that once held trout.

Default Superb!

I had the pleasure of Paul's support in a meeting of many organisations involved with the restoration and long term future of the river Erewash this Monday.
I can honestly say for someone with a vast scientific knowledge and complete understanding of rivers with obvious top notch academic skills, he has an uncanny way of communicating in layman's terms to a thicko like me - Amazing really.

I'm led to believe he can catch fish as well, but hes yet to prove that to me .

Don't hesitate would be my advise

Mick

Craig - all enquiries welcome. I'm at the River Restoration Centre's conference in Nottingham for the next couple of days, but pm me a contact number and I'll give you a bell when I next get chance. We've found in other projects that there is mileage in linking local anglers to local wildlife interest groups (and, sadly, the wildlife interest groups are GENERALLY way more active than anglers when it comes to working parties!).

Here is a link to my Trout in the Town blog - it probably isn't updated as often as I would like, but sometimes it's hard to find the time (which is probably a good thing).

...oh and Mick - I catch the odd fish you cheeky git! (ps think the meeting was useful and have had a brief chat with Tim and Denise about future stuff with the Erewash).

There is something similar up in Scotland called Clyde in the classroom where local kids rear trout eggs then release the fry into local streams.

Just the sight of all that rubbish gets my grappling hand twitching, Craig... and yes, Trout in the Town is a great programme (I would say that, wouldn't I, coming from one of the early flagship projects myself... click the Wandle Trust link on my sig for more ideas of what's already been achieved with what was quite a messy river when we started, all of it with lots of encouragement from the Wild Trout Trust. You'll find links to lots of other great initiatives like the Erewash Chainsaw Massacre, errm, restoration project too )
