Default Strike Indicators

Hi was looking for some info on strike indicators and whither we should use them at all only saying this as last season whilst fishing loganlea with a team of buzzers and using a piece of strike indicator yarn an older fisherman snubbed me and told me that the method I was using was just as good as a bait fisherman with a float at the time I was a bit P****d at him but I bit my tongue and just smiled. This season I have fitted a hi vis braided loop to one of my floating lines to help see strikes. Do most of you agree with the older fisherman and if not what would be the best indicators to use with out sending the old school into a fishing rage
(when I say older I dont mean to upset any of the members this man was close to his late 70`s and held a high view on his fishing )

In his dvds Ollie Edwards uses his Moser braided loop (with the red plastic sleeve) as an indicator, though this would only be good for close in work, you won't be able to see this from 30yds.
I went on a trip where Paul Proctor was hosting. He used a 12" piece of hi-viz flyline (bright organge) with loops on both ends. In the middle be marked a dozen or so rings close together with a black permanent marker. Apparenty you can see every little movement of the flyline with this.

However for buzzers, I though most people put the tip of the rod close to the water and watched the drop of the line from the rod tip to the water for movement, and not the other end of the flyline?

breezy all I can say is you fish the way you want to,as long as its legal dont worry about it.
Some dont like it when your catching and they arn,t and you will never satisfy everyone.
Its an old can of worms this one and Im afraid that indicators are here to stay and it is anglers choice to use or not.Its legal and it works and if you enjoy using it forget what others think.
thats my view.

thanks for the replys and I will give the hi viz loop a go if its harder to see the takes then I will shop around for a small but distinctive style of strike indicator and if I`m using one and that old moaner turns up I will run a mile as the ear bashing I got was throbbing for weeks or it might have been my ego

Hi', Breezey. I am one of the old school now, being 74, and I am very fond of fishing the simpler forms of presentation. I rarely use an indicator for rainbows, and wouldn't use them for brown trout fishing, especially wild brownies on streams and small hill tarns; but that does not give me the right to criticise you or anyone else, if your choice of fishing method is different from mine.
The guy who snubbed you didn't deserve even to be acknowledged. I just wish you could have caught a few good fish while he was watching -- that is the best possible reply to his sort of criticism. You did nothing wrong, simple as!
Cheers, and good luck, however you waggle your stick. TC
