Default Last cast of the day

Everyone has to get a final cast in before heading for home.
Even though the chances of actually catching on that last cast are remote, and it hardly ever delivers, I somehow always seem to expect a nibble...

I was wondering if anyone has any success/interesting stories related to the last cast of the day?

The one that stands out for me was the last cast of a magical week in Poland on the San. As darkness fell and the mists rose, I dropped my sedge into a current and ended up admiring one last beautiful grayling before trudging off.

Any memories to share?

No famous last casts, but I hate to catch a fish on my first cast. It has happened a few times and nearly always resulted in a blank for the rest of the day

Clear case of law of the sod there Maharg...
May I suggest casting the first one on the bank just to warm up?
Anything to avoid a day long blank....

I usually end up taking about 25 last casts, so if i catch on my last cast its not all that surprising....

My lasts casts normaly end up in disaster like hooking the tree behind me but I think my most memorable was fishing on Llyn Berwyn in west Wales and catching a 2 and a bit pound wild brownie which was the biggest one I've ever caught on a fly and beat the 'minnow' my Dad caught and put back.

I often dont know when my last cast will be.
Sometimes you batter away without result.
If i have had a good day and catch another then its time to go home.
Occasionally half way through the day i will have a great fish or get one i have been after for a while. I wont cast or fish anymore but rather go home feeling a sense of achievement and look forward to doing it all over again.
Leave wanting more.

Whilst out with the Scratch last year on Stocks, I had one definate last cast.....

Turned out to be a 20min last cast as a 11lb Brown decieded to grab ahold....

My most rememerable last cast where I have caught something!!!

The pic is in the 2008 Browns Thread.

Some nice points there....
I fully agree that you should always leave the water wanting more, but I usually have trouble getting out to go home, so I tend to struggle with that one....
Needless to say that I'm also vastly experienced in hooking the undergrowth in the dying moments...
And I'm heading straight over to the browns thread to check out that 11lber!
Just imagine if you'd not bothered and packed up at that point Carl!!!

Not so much a last cast of the day, but on the first day of the season fishing a local res with cluelessturtle, it came to lunch time so i moved over to his swim to head back to the van for coffee, while i was there i asked if i could have a cast with his new sparton rod, so i had around 4 casts with it, said how nice it was at delivering a line and had that famous "one last cast" and proceeded to hook up to a lovely overwintered 2lbish

the next time we went out he didnt want me to try his demon rod, cant think why

however i still haven't managed to christen my own rod yet!!
