Default Dropper rings

Does anyone on here use those little metal rings for tying droppers onto leaders?Do they affect casting and are they reliable?

I have never had a problem with them to be honest and are well worth the money.

They dont affect casting at all - remember that your fly is probably more heavy and bigger than them.

I got some Russ about a year ago the Riverge ones.
I tied a few flies up with them, so I could attach a dropper from them, rather like a NZ dropper idea.
I didn't get on with them for main line droppers, a bit fiddly for me.

I like them, I've only been using this season but they've already paid their way by keeping my tapered leaders intact for many more trips than would normally be the case. They don't seem to affect my casting at all.

i'll second that. stops you from chopping down expensive leaders. there ok for droppers, pain in the butt to sort out a tangle from though and to tie back on!!!!

like the idea of incorporating them for the duo tho nice one steven

Phil Holding, Spidersplus, sells Klinks ready tied like that.

I use them for the reason already stated. At the end of a Riverge tapered leader they can make the leader last for months and cut down the amount of Tippet used. You can also put whatever BS you want straight onto them without scaling down.

I agree with the other comments. The rings are very useful for extending the life of a tapered leader.
I also use them to construct my own leaders from varying thicknesses of flourocarbon or coploymer. And I use these to put my droppers on. It can be a bit fiddly but you have the advenatge of being able to renew, lengthen or shorten droppers through the day without re-tying the whole leader.
I have found the Riverge rings to be the best value as they are very smooth and there's no risk of the leader being weakened.

I've only used them for a few weeks at this stage, wondering should you re-tie the knot between the tapered leader and the ring every so often?

I've used rings for a while and would re - tie the leader every so often. Even doing this every few outings still extends the life of of your tapered leader somewhat. I find them no problem for droppers at all.
